International

A strategic objectives of the AGERA networkThe international dimension is one of the Grandes Ecoles’ strong features. Whether through partnerships with an increasing number of foreign universities or thanks to greater mobility for students and teaching staff, university courses are becoming more and more international.

Favouring the international influence of the Grandes Ecoles in the Rhône-Alpes region is one of the strategic objectives of the AGERA network.
AGERA’s International Commission, already well established for several years, brings together the “International Relations” services for the schools in order to reinforce information and experience sharing and exchanges on the various policies implemented internationally in cooperation with that of the Regional Council.

Below are just a few of the International Commission’s accomplishments:

Organisation of the Welcome Day for foreign students every year at the start of the new school year

Welcome Day for foreign students Every year since 2000, AGERA has been organising a special Welcome Day for the foreign students from its member schools.

The aim is to officially welcome foreign students who join the courses of the member establishments and facilitate their integration in the Rhône-Alpes region.
Every year this event brings together over 500 students who join the Grandes Ecoles of Lyon, Saint-Étienne, Grenoble or Chambéry.
Participants thoroughly enjoy the day since they are able to meet each other and exchange impressions. They very much appreciate this Rhône-Alpes ‘welcome formula’ which is conducive to helping them establishing new contacts and at the same time serves as an official welcome.

All the members of the “International Relations” teams get involved to prepare, organise and run the meeting on the day.

Study of the Agreements between the Grandes Ecoles that belong to AGERA and the Foreign Universities

This survey was completed in 2004 (based on the figures for 2003) and then renewed in 2005 (using the data for 2004), in order to give added strength to the study.

The presentation of the results provides us with information on the number of agreements signed, with which countries and the number of incoming and outgoing students.

Organisation of a day of intercultural exchange on the subject of: "The French-Indian Challenges": Improving Awareness, Understanding and Cooperation ": on 1 February 2007

The aim of the day, organised on the initiative of AGERA’s International Commission, in partnership with the Rhône-Alpes Regional Authority, was to contribute insights for improving awareness, understanding cultures, the key systems and the way they function, sharing experience on existing cooperation programmes, contributing to relevant cooperation that contributes positively to the three main fields under discussion i.e. Training, Research and Industry.
In the aim of gaining a better understanding of these challenges and the best ways to organise French-Indian cooperation in the fields of Higher Education and Research, the day’s programme was split into two parts:

  • An Institutional Morning, which focused on an examination of the projects underway with India in the Rhône-Alpes region, in order to answer the question entitled "How Can We Cooperate More Efficiently?” What progress has been made in the areas of Academic and Economic cooperation and also Research?
  • An Afternoon Open to Students from Higher Education establishments in Rhône Alpes with intercultural contributions and testimonials from students and teachers on their experience in India and their vision of the country.

Representatives from the French Embassy in India and of the Indian Embassy In France, the institutional partners, the representatives for Higher Education, both Indian and French, and company representatives were all present for this Indian day full of exchanges and experience sharing.
